Stamped & Decorative Concrete
Get the elegant look of stone, brick, or tile at a fraction of the cost with stamped and decorative concrete that's built to last.
Why Decorative Concrete Makes Sense
Stamped concrete gives you the upscale appearance of natural stone or pavers without the high cost or maintenance headaches. Real stone patios and driveways require extensive base work, individual piece placement, and constant releveling as pavers shift. Decorative concrete eliminates these problems while delivering the same visual impact.
At AVD Arlington Concrete, we create custom looks using stamping tools, colors, and techniques that transform plain concrete into something special. You get a monolithic surface that won't develop gaps for weeds, won't shift or settle, and requires minimal upkeep over its lifetime.
Benefits of Decorative Concrete
- Costs 30-50% less than natural stone or pavers
- No weeds growing between joints
- Won't shift, sink, or become uneven over time
- Hundreds of pattern and color combinations
- Resistant to freeze-thaw damage and salt
- Can be applied to driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks
- Minimal maintenance compared to natural materials
Popular Patterns and Styles
We offer dozens of stamp patterns that replicate the look of natural materials. Here are some of the most popular options for Arlington homeowners.
Ashlar Slate and Flagstone
These patterns mimic natural stone with irregular shapes and realistic texture. Ashlar slate has a more structured layout, while random flagstone creates a natural, organic appearance. Both work beautifully for patios and walkways. Earth tone colors enhance the stone effect.
Brick and Cobblestone
Get the classic look of brick pavers in patterns like herringbone, running bond, or basketweave. European cobblestone stamps create an old-world appearance perfect for front entries and courtyard patios. These patterns pair well with traditional and historic home styles.
Wood Plank and Boardwalk
Wood plank stamps replicate the look of timber decking without the rot, splinters, or maintenance. This contemporary option works great for modern homes and pool decks. The concrete stays cooler than real wood and won't warp or fade over time.
Tile and Geometric Patterns
For a Mediterranean or Spanish look, tile patterns with color accents create stunning patios and entries. We can also create custom geometric designs, borders, and inlays that personalize your space. These work especially well for pool decks and courtyards.
Color and Finishing Techniques
Color brings stamped concrete to life. We use several techniques to achieve realistic, multi-tonal effects that enhance the stamped pattern. The right color choices make your concrete look like the real material it's imitating.
Integral Color
Color is mixed throughout the concrete, providing a base tone that won't wear off. This creates consistent color even if the surface chips or scratches. Earth tones, grays, and terra cotta are popular base colors that work with most patterns.
Color Hardener and Release
A colored powder is broadcast onto the surface before stamping, creating richer, more vibrant tones. Release powder in a contrasting color highlights the stamped texture, producing natural color variation that mimics stone or aged brick. This two-tone effect adds depth and realism.
Acid Staining
Applied after the concrete cures, acid stains react chemically to create unique, variegated colors. No two stained surfaces look exactly alike, giving you a truly custom appearance. Stains can be layered and blended for complex color effects.
Caring for Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete needs minimal maintenance to keep it looking great. We seal the surface after installation to protect the color and make cleaning easier. Resealing every 2 to 3 years maintains the appearance and protection. Simple sweeping and occasional hosing removes dirt and debris.
Avoid deicing salts in winter, as they can damage the sealer and surface. Instead, use sand for traction. For stubborn stains, mild soap and water usually does the trick. Pressure washing is fine, but keep the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface to avoid etching.
We also install stamped concrete on driveways and patios. Many homeowners choose to coordinate patterns and colors across multiple surfaces for a cohesive look.
